Kiko: Liberal Party respects decision of its members in House leadership row
Liberal Party (LP) President Senator Francisco “Kiko” Pangilinan on Tuesday said they respect the position taken by 12 of its members in the leadership row in the House of Representatives.
Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo acquired 184 votes on Monday to be elected as the new House Speaker hours before the State of the Nation Address. The 12 lawmakers who chose to abstain are members of LP.
Pangilinan said the LP does not wish to be part of the “spectacle” at the House of Representatives.
“The maneuverings show that the underbelly of politics that turn good people off from serving in government. The battle for House speakership is political infighting among those in the administration,” he said.
The opposition Senator added that the Liberal Party will remain “critical, particularly on issues and concerns of ordinary Filipinos, who have been left behind as mere spectators in this political fight.” — Micah Yurielle P. Atienza/INQUIRER.net intern
