Emirati authorities have warned citizens who wish to do the viral “In My Feelings” dance challenge that they will be given penalties which include a Dh2,000 (P29,000) fine and 23 black points. Moreover, their vehicles will be impounded for 60 days.

It is worth noting that the 23 black points authorities will give is one point away from having an Emirati driver’s license suspended. The Dubai Police implemented the black point system to combat traffic violations.

“The law gives police the power to arrest any person who drives their vehicle in a dangerous manner that can endanger the lives of the public,” lawyer Yousuf Al Bahar said, as reported by 24Media via Gulf News yesterday, July 23.

Al Bahar stated that under Article 59 of the Federal Traffic Law, police officers “may arrest a motorist for causing injury or death of another, driving in a dangerous manner that endangers the lives of others, or for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and losing control of the vehicle.”

Moreover, the Emirati lawyer stresses that performing the challenge is a violation of the Federal Law No. 12 of 1995 and Federal Penal Code No. 3 of 1987 for endangering people’s lives, the report said. According to the Federal Penal Code, residents who engage in reckless driving may be fined, imprisoned, or both.

The “In My Feelings” challenge, also referred to as the “#kikichallenge” on Twitter, gained popularity after Instagram star and comedian Shiggy’s video of him dancing on a street went viral. The challenge encourages participants to leave a slow-moving car to perform a dance routine.
