‘Josie’ leaves 5 dead in Mindoro

CITY OF CALAPAN – Five people in Mindoro Island died from the effects of tropical depression “Josie,” the police said Monday.

Supt. Imelda Tolentino, who is the Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan (Mimaropa) police information officer, said in an email to the Inquirer that three of the fatalities were from Sablayan town in Occidental Mindoro.

They were identified as Nina Pernito, 28, and her 1-year-old daughter Janna, who died in a landslide in Barangay (village) Pag-asa. Meanwhile, Jessie Manzo of Barangay Sta. Lucia, also in Sablayan, died
when a felled tree hit him.

Two others who drowned – Henry Pastor, 20, and Eddie Gado, 40 – were from Sitio (sub-village) Maalin in Mansalay town in Oriental Mindoro. /je
