CITY OF CALAPAN – A police officer was killed when he resisted arrested during a buy-bust operation in Paluan town in Occidental Mindoro province on Saturday, according to Supt. Imelda Tolentino, information officer of the Mimaropa Police Regional Office.
Mimaropa stands for Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.
Tolentino identified the officer as PO3 Marco Hashim Alegre, who was listed a high value target, level 2, in Occidental Mindoro.
The buy-bust operation took place at 12:10 p.m. on Saturday on Cabrera Street in Barangay Marikit.
According to Tolentino, Alegre fired his .45-caliber pistol at arresting police officers and drug enforcement agents, prompting the operatives to fire back, killing him.
Alegre was restored to active duty on May 27, 2018, after being dropped from the Philippine National Police rolls for going on absence without leave (AWOL) starting on Aug. 23, 2016. /atm
