Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 1 has been lifted over Northern Cagayan as tropical depression “Josie” moved northeast toward the Philippine Sea early Sunday, the weather bureau said.
Only Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands remain under Signal 1, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 8 a.m. bulletin on Sunday.
As of 7 a.m., Josie was 85 kilometers east-northeast of Basco, Batanes, moving northeast at 35 kilometers per hour (kph). It was packing maximum sustained winds of 60 kph with gusts of up to 75 kph.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon (habagat) will continue to bring clouds and rain over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Cagayan Valley, the Mindoro provinces, Rizal, Cavite and Batangas.
:Residents of these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying and in mountainous areas are advised to take action against possible flooding and landslide, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices and continue monitoring for updates,” Pagasa said.
Sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central Luzon, especially in areas under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal #1. /cbb
