IN HER handkerchief, a 43-year-old woman was holding sachets of suspected shabu.

Police arrested Nanette Veloso, a widow who was about to visit her lover at the Lapu-Lapu City jail Friday afternoon.

The woman, a resident of barangay Cambaro, Mandaue City, had 102 sachets in her possession, said police, who estimated the suspected drugs to be worth P20,400.

As part of a routine check, JO1 Josie Danas frisked the visitor. Danas then inspected the handkerchief that the woman was holding.

Wrapped inside were sachets of white powder believed to be shabu.

Veloso said a man whose name she didn’t know handed the sachets to her wrapped in paper when she reached the gate of the jail facility.

She said the man, the live-in partner of a friend, had asked her to bring it to a cottage inside.

Veloso was turned over to the Lapu-Lapu City police pending the filing of charges against her./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
