The Armed Forces of the Philippines will be on red alert starting Friday ahead of President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday.
AFP public affairs chief Col. Noel Detoyato said they have not monitored any significant threats to the President’s SONA at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City.
However, he explained that the military will be on full alert to ensure that the troops are intact and are inside camp over the weekend.
The Joint Task Force-National Capital Region will deploy 1,021 military troops for the SONA to augment personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Detoyato said the figures may change depending on the situation on Monday.
Deployed AFP personnel will come from the Philippine Army, Air Force and Navy.
On the other hand, the PNP will deploy more than 6,000 policemen in various areas in Manila for the event.
Meanwhile, also on Friday afternoon, a mustering of troops will be held for the reserves at Camp Aguinaldo. /vvp
