DID YOU KNOW

/ 05:00 AM July 18, 2018

On July 18, 1896, according to an entry from the memoirs of Santiago Alvarez, the Spanish police found evidence of the existence of the Katipunan in the printing shop of Diario de Manila. This was after they searched the drawer of Apolonio de la Cruz, a member and treasurer of the Maghiganti chapter in Tondo, Manila. De la Cruz had earlier been involved in a conflict with Teodoro Patino, a protege of the Spanish owner of the shop. The Katipunan leaders, including Andres Bonifacio, went into hiding after the discovery. —Celine Dioticio, Inquirer Research
