MIAA receives P13.7M in unused terminal fees from airlines

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has received P13.7 million from airlines, representing the unused terminal fees they have collected from passengers.

MIAA general manager Ed Monreal said Monday that Cebu Pacific, CebGo, and six other airlines have remitted their terminal fee collection to the MIAA.

“We appreciate this gesture of our airline partners. I can say that this is the essence of a consultative and participative working relationship. No issue cannot be resolved if everyone is engaged and sincerely dealing with each other,” Monreal said in a statement.

Records show that Cathay Pacific remitted the biggest amount (P5.01 million), which represent their collection from February 2015 to December 2015.

Singapore Airlines returned the second biggest amount (P4.3 million) covering the period February 2015 to March 2016 while Kuwait Airways remitted P1.9 million for the same period.

Qatar Airways also returned the P1.3 million it has collected as terminal fees from February 2015 to December 2015. Both KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines also remitted P1.08 million and P92,400, respectively.

Monreal said passengers with unused tickets may claim the refund for their terminal fees at the MIAA Collection Office located at the ground floor of the MIAA Administration Building in Pasay City.

“To expedite and facilitate the refund process, passenger claimants are advised to bring [the] original copy of their ticket showing [the] record locator number and valid government-issued ID bearing their signature,” Monreal said.

“Proxy refund is also allowed subject to presentation of an authorization from the passenger, original copy of [the] passenger’s ticket showing [the] record locator number, original government-issued ID of the passenger, and original government-issued ID of the representative bearing his signature,” he added.

Cebu Pacific and CebGo also remitted to the MIAA on July 5 a total of P245.6 million for the travel period covering February 1, 2015 to April 30, 2018.

As of July 13, 2018, the MIAA has already received a total of P259.3 million from all airlines. /ee
