Trillanes loses police escorts
Senator Antonio Trillanes on Friday confirmed that the Philippine National Police (PNP) has recalled the police escorts assigned to him days following a series of assassinations against local officials.
The opposition senator said he has been stripped of his escorts as early as the end of June, without having been told of the reasons.
Asked if he believed that the withdrawal of his police security could be a prelude to an attempt on his life, Trillanes said: “Subukan lang nila (I dare them to try).”
He took a shot at President Rodrigo Duterte, claiming the President would possibly be the one who would have him harmed: “Kilala ko si Duterte, by now duwag yan (I know Duterte; by now he is running scared),” he said.
Speaking at the sidelines of the GenWe Tambayan event of the Kaya Natin Movement at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, he allayed fears of supporters on the possible threats to his life.
