Motorists are advised to brace for traffic as the Manila Water Co. Inc. is set to start repair work Saturday midnight to fix a leaking pipe near the corner of Edsa and Shaw Boulevard in front of Starmall in Mandaluyong City.
In a statement, Manila Water said the repair work will go 24 hours daily until Aug. 20, and that the outermost or curbside lane of Edsa’s southbound side shall be occupied.
This leaves only two lanes of Edsa’s service road open to the vehicular flow.
The company said the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority was moving the affected bus stop to two temporary locations — one approaching Starmall near the footbridge at the SM Megamall and another on the north side of the Edsa-Shaw intersection.
Also, vehicles turning right from Edsa to Shaw Boulevard will, for the meantime, be allowed to pass through the Starmall premises.
This is to allow southbound buses and private vehicles to use the service road exclusively.
Manila Water said repairs will involve the laying of 210 linear meters of new 500-millimeter steel pipe along Edsa southbound that will be running up to the intersection with Shaw Boulevard.
The newly-laid pipe will be linked to an existing 500-mm steel pipe at its north end, and to an existing 800-mm steel pipe at its south end. /jpv
