The Philippine Judges Association (PJA) has asked President Rodrigo Duterte to consider Court Administrator Jose Midas P. Marquez as the next Supreme Court Associate Justice.
In a letter addressed to the President, which was received by Malacañang on Wednesday, the PJA said Marquez is fit for the post, saying his “integrity and competence” will “greatly benefit our beloved institution.”
“We believe that Court Administrator Marquez possesses the necessary qualifications and experience having been in the service in the Supreme Court for almost three decades in various positions,” the group said.
The letter was signed and acknowledged by the executive board of the PJA led by its President, Marikina Regional Trial Court Judge Felix Reyes. PJA is the biggest organization of all Second Level Court Judges nationwide, consisting of 1,200 RTC-Judges.
Marquez is one of the shortlisted candidates to replace Associate Justice Presbitero J. Velasco, the current Associate Justice of the Supreme Court who will reach the mandatory age of retirement of 70 and will be retiring in August.
In previous news reports, the Supreme Court has also recommended four aspirants, Marquez included, for the position.
