QC gov’t orders take down of China banners, review of CCTV footage

The Quezon City government on Thursday ordered the removal of banners that bear the message “Welcome to the Philippines, Province of China” splashed across the city.

In an advisory, the city government tasked its Public Order and Safety Department, the Parks Department, and concerned barangay officials to take down all tarpaulins stating that the Philippines is a province of China.

City administrator Aldrin Cuña took to Facebook to relay a similar order. He also requested barangay officials to review their CCTV footage and identify the culprits.

“Defend our sovereignty. Review your CCTVs to identify the culprits!” he said.

Similar banners were seen across Metro Manila on the day of the second anniversary of the Philippine international victory against China at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, The Netherlands.

It was not clear yet who was behind the scandal but Malacañang pointed its fingers at the enemies of the administration. /je
