The quest to make the son and namesake of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos the country’s next Vice President has brought his sister, Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos, to a religious festival that had been stricken by one of the country’s worst tragedies.
Imee said her presence at the Feast of Krus sa Wawa on Sunday was to pray for her brother, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who claimed he was cheated in the vice presidential race and filed a protest at the Presidential Electoral Tribunal.
Imee said the case was a chance “to finally prove that he (Marcos Jr.) is the rightful Vice President.”
“I hope we get that through prayers,” Imee said.
The festival was stricken by tragedy in 1993 when the pagoda carrying the cross being venerated in the annual feast capsized and killed more than 200 people. —Carmela Reyes-Estrope
