Archdiocese of Cebu: No prior threat to Palma before shootout

“There is no known prior threat to the Archbishop of Cebu. We call for prayer that peace may be restored,” Archdiocese of Cebu Media Relations Officer Fr. Joseph Tan said in a statement on Tuesday.

Tan also confirmed that the armed man who was killed by operatives from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team of the Cebu City Police Station, was indeed looking for Palma, who is currently in Manila.

“We wish to inform the public that an incident took place in the archbishop’s residence this morning resulting in the death of an unidentified person wanting to see the archbishop who, is in Manila,” Tan added.

According to Tan, they called the police after the man refused to leave.

“Police was called after the man refused to leave. The official police report will disclose the details pending investigation,” Tan said.   /vvp
