Teen, companion die in Antipolo shootout

SAN PEDRO CITY – Two persons, one of them a minor, was killed in a police shootout in Antipolo City, Rizal.

The 15-year-old boy died while undergoing treatment at the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center around 5 a.m. Tuesday, said Supt. Villaflor Bannawagan, Antipolo City police chief.

His companion, a still unidentified man, died shortly after he was shot by the police on Monday evening.

The fatalities, who were with another companion identified as Romel Carpio, 25, were apprehended by policemen conducting regular road inspections around 10:30 p.m. in Barangay dela Paz, according to Bannawagan in a phone interview.

“They were spotted during an Oplan Sita (police road inspections) exchanging what seemed to be drugs and guns,” Bannawagan said.

He said that when approached, the suspects suddenly opened fire prompting the shootout.

All three suspects were hit, including Carpio, who was also brought to the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center.

Carpio, however escaped from the hospital around 3 a.m. Tuesday, and was being tracked down by the authorities.

The police said the three men were allegedly involved in criminal activities and illegal drug trade in the city.
