‘Gardo’ slightly weakens

Typhoon may exit PAR either Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning

Typhoon “Gardo” (international name “Maria”) has slightly weakened as it continued to move west-northwest, the state weather agency said Tuesday.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Gardo packed maximum sustained winds of 170 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph,

Gardo maintained its speed of 30 kph, and is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning if it continues its track, Pagasa added.

Meanwhile, monsoon rains are expected over Metro Manila, Palawan, Mindoro, Romblon, Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, and Bataan.

The rest of Luzon and Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, Pagasa said.  /kga
