Magnitude 4.0 quake jolts Isabela, Cagayan

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela — A  magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck Isabela at around 2:04 p.m. on Monday, the Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The bulletin issued at 3:37 p.m. said tremors were felt in San Pablo, Isabela and Enrile, Cagayan at Intensity IV; Tuguegarao City, Penablanca in Cagayan, Cabarroguis in Quirino, and Echague and Cabagan in Isabela at Intensity III; Maconacon and Divilacan in Isabela at Intensity II and Ilagan City and Tumauini in Isabela ant Intensity I

The quake, which is tectonic in origin, had a depth of 21 kilometers. The epicenter was located in San Pablo town in Isabela.

Residents were quick to post incident on social media.

“Nabigla nga ako at di kami nakalabas (We were surprised, but we failed to go out of the house.),” said Donita Joy Garpillo, a resident of San Pablo. Eversol Corpuz, a classroom teacher in Ilagan, said they also felt the quake but they did not go out of the room.

An earlier quake also rocked Calayan town in Cagayan at 9:47 a.m. with a depth of 23 kilometers. It had a 2.5-magnitude strength and was tectonic in origin. /ee
