7-year-old boy drowns in Pangasinan river

DAGUPAN CITY — A 7-year-old boy, who was earlier reported missing, was found dead on Saturday floating in a river at Malasiqui town in Pangasinan province, police said on Sunday.

Rengie Aquino, a Grade 1 pupil, was found by floating in the Marusay River at 11 a.m. Aquino was taken to a hospital, where a doctor declared him dead on arrival.

The boy’s father, Raymundo Aquino Jr., could not locate his son when he arrived home at 5:10 p.m. on Friday. His other son, Russel, told him Aquino was playing in school.

Russel later admitted that Aquino slipped and fell in the river while they were playing in the dike, prompting the search. /cbb
