PNP ready to face probe on ‘lemon’ Mahindra patrol vehicles

The Philippine National Police will cooperate with the Senate inquiry into its controversial P1.89-billion purchase of Mahindra patrol vehicles in 2015, which the Commission on Audit recently flagged.

“We are ready and willing to cooperate in any Senate investigation, and we will provide the necessary documents regarding the acquisition of the vehicles,” PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde said in a statement on Friday.

Sen. Grace Poe sought the inquiry on Tuesday through Senate Resolution No. 777.

“The damage done by the lemon Mahindras compromised security, crippled the police, and left citizens vulnerable,” Poe said.  —JAYMEE T. GAMIL AND DJ YAP
