Driver dead, 17 hurt in vehicular accident in CamSur

PILI, Camarines Sur—A driver died while 17 others were hurt after a van accidentally bumped into a passenger bus in Maharlika highway in this town before dawn Friday, police report said.

Police report said a Toyota Hi-Ace van being driven by Mark Alvin Nicart crashed into a bus then ended up at the side of the road at around 3:36 a.m. in Barangay (village) San Isidro.

Both vehicles were traveling from Manila, investigations revealed.

Nicart died instantly while his 17 passengers were injured and were taken to nearest hospitals for treatment.

According to Leo Relata, driver of the bus, the van was running fast when it crashed into the right portion of the bus door.

“He was so fast approaching the intersection where I was passing,” Relata said in an interview.

Police are conducting follow-up investigation of the incident. Investigators are determining if the vehicle Nicart was driving was a colorum passenger van.  /jpv
