CITY OF ILAGAN — The P1-billion Pasa Dam irrigation project, which would augment the water needs of 600 farmers here, was opened on Thursday, raising hopes that their rice production would increase in the next cropping season.
With increased irrigation water, farmers expected to produce additional 8,629.20 metric tons of rice on 846 hectares of farms in the villages of Pasa, Minabang, Morado, Fuyo and Sta. Victoria, National Irrigation Administration officials here said.
The Pasa Dam will also reduce flooding in Ilagan since its reservoir can carry 4.28 million cubic meters of water.
The project was built with the support of a $21.76-million (P935.68 million) grant from the Korea International Cooperation Agency. — VILLAMOR VISAYA JR.
