10 Olongapo high school students fall ill from floor wax smell

/ 04:01 PM July 04, 2018

OLONGAPO CITY – Ten high school students were hospitalized on Wednesday morning (July 4) due to a bad reaction to the smell of floor wax they were applying in their classroom.

The Grade 9 students of the Olongapo City National High School complained of stomach ache, nausea, and breathing problems at 9 a.m.

Vice Mayor Aquilino “Jong” Cortez said some of the students were rushed to the James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital for treatment, while others were given first aid at the school clinic.

School officials said the foul odor from the floor wax was aggravated by the smell emitted by paint sealers in the classroom. Health officials are examining the classroom to determine if the school was liable for the incident.
