12 fights lined up for tonight’s MMA card
Twelve exciting Mixed Martial Arts and stand up kick boxing bouts will be featured in tonight’s second “Fight Ground Championships” of SOMA Fighting Club and Back Fist Promotions at the San Roque Sports Complex.
Two of the best MMA fighters in Cebu, Jonjier “The Dangerous” Torbiso of the Durex Dragons of Lapu-Lapu City and Joerick “The Viper” Rivera of SOMA Fight Club will wage war in the main event under the 58kg division. Both are fresh from scoring impressive wins in their last fights.
“Ako jud paninguha-on nga makadaog, dili lang ko mo saad kung unsa nga klase nga kadaugan akong mabuhat,” said Rivera during yesterday’s press conference at the Mr. J’s Restobar in Panagdait, Mabolo.
Organizers Allan Epile of SOMA Fight Club and Back Fist Promotions head Joseph Lanuza were also in attendance.
Meanwhile, Torbiso, a Fearless Fighting Championship (FFC) veteran and who saw action in the Yaw Yan Fighting Championship series will try to improve his record of three wins and two losses against Rivera’s clean 3-0 slate.
Fighting in the undercard are another SOMA fighter James “Spider” Serenio against Malawi Fighting System founder Ali “The Grappler” Malawi (53kg); Mark “The Terminator” Araneta vs. Romelo “Arcom” Espra (72kg MMA); Leo Gaerlan vs. Junrey Soquite (72kg MMA) and Mark “Buhawi” Revalde vs. John Edu “The Prodigal Dragon” Torbiso (52kg MMA).

The bouts will start at 6 p.m.
Lanuza and SOMA are planning to make the event a quarterly activity. This January, SOMA and Back Fist will stage another fight card in line with the Sinulog Festival.
