Around P1.3 million worth of “shabu” (crystal meth) was seized on Tuesday from an alleged drug peddler with links to the Boratong drug syndicate which used to maintain a “shabu tiangge” in Pasig City.

Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director, identified the suspect as Haimen Rangaig, a 24-year-old resident of Barangay Pinagbuhatan, who yielded 200 grams of shabu.

The police said Rangaig was arrested at 2:10 a.m. on San Agustin Street during a drug bust conducted by the NCRPO drug enforcement unit, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Pasig City police.

Eleazar said Rangaig was a courier for Juharey Boratong, a nephew of Amin Boratong, the convicted drug lord who maintained a one-stop shop for illegal drugs at Barangay Santo Tomas in Pasig.

FEATURED STORIES

Convicted in 2009, Amin remains detained at New Bilibid Prison while Juharey, who used the surname “Mauyab” to avoid arrest, is at large.

“Even if Amin has been jailed, the Boratong group continues to operate,” Eleazar said. —WITH REPORTS FROM KRISTELA DANIELLE BOO AND ANNA PATRICIA CAMPOS
