DID YOU KNOW: Nutrition month is observed every July

Nutrition Month is observed every July by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 491 signed on June 25, 1974 by President Ferdinand Marcos.

The decree, which stated that a nutrition program was a vital and integral part of social reform and economic development, also created the National Nutrition Council (NNC) which was tasked to be the highest policy-making and coordinating body on nutrition.

The NNC Governing Board is a collegial body chaired by the health secretary.

The NNC holds office at the Nutrition Building on Chino Roces Avenue Extension, Taguig City. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
