DOTr bares plan to launch integrated transport system in Metro Cebu
To solve the “worsening traffic” situation in Metro Cebu, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said it plans to implement an integrated transport system (ITS) in the area.
DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade said on Tuesday that he already discussed the plan with Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino.
He said the initiative is meant to “synchronize” the different transportation projects being implemented to address the traffic condition in Metro Cebu.
“There is no single solution to address transportation issues. It needs a basket of solutions, that is why we are pursuing the implementation of the Integrated Transportation System in Cebu in the next two years,” Tugade said in statement.
The proposed ITS would include point-to-point (P2P) buses, a monorail in Lapu-Lapu City, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on three-lane roads, Light Rail Transit (LRT) lines from Carcar to Danao, and from Mandaue to the airport, according to the DOTr chief.
“The ITS was developed after due consideration of Metro Cebu’s road profile, and the fast-growing need [for] efficient mass transport systems in bigger, inter-connected cities,” he said.
