ARMM lawmaker survives Davao City attack, but aide killed
DAVAO CITY — Unidentified gunmen fired at the vehicle of a lawmaker from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) along a road here on Monday, killing his aide, police on Tuesday said.
Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, spokesperson of Southern Mindanao regional police, said Berry Adas, the aide of ARMM Assemblyman Sidik Amiril, died due to multiple bullet wounds in the head. Amiril survived.
Driz said the lawmaker’s black pickup truck was passing by Macopa corner Chico Streets, in Ciudad Esperanza in Cabantian village around 2:30 p.m. when assailants on another SUV and a motorcycle opened fire the at vehicle, hitting Adas, who was seated at the back of the car.
The legislator, his driver and two other occupants inside were unharmed, apparently shielded by the bullet-proof car, police said.
Driz said police were looking into rido (family feud) as possible reason for the attack.
Amiril was facing charges for involvement in illegal drugs. A warrant for his arrest was even served in 2017 but anti-narcotics agents and lawmen failed to catch him.
