SWS survey on Boracay ‘vindicates’ Malacañang decision
Malacañang said it felt vindicated in its decision to close Boracay to tourists for a six-month rehabilitation following a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showing that a majority of Filipinos supported the move.
“The Palace [feels] vindicated and welcomes the support of the people,” said presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.
He made the remarks in reaction to the SWS survey in March which showed that 64 percent of the 1,200 respondents agreed with the government’s decision to shut down Boracay for massive rehabilitation.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier ordered the closure of the world-famous holiday destination after likening it to a cesspool. —Julie M. Aurelio
