A Land Transportation Franchising and Regulartory Board (LTFRB) official has called on traffic enforcers to strictly implement traffic rules and regulations on drivers of public utility vehicles (PUVs) as he cited their errant ways of driving.

LTFRB Executive Director Atty. Samuel Jardin said on Monday that the board continues to receive complaints against PUV drivers, who defy road satey laws that mainly causes traffic jams all over Metro Manila.

“Maraming reklamo against sa kanila. So many things are needed to be done kasi makita mo talaga na one major cause of traffic congestion is yung kanilang way of driving,” Jardin said when asked on the LTFRB Board’s assessment of PUV drivers.

Jardin pointed out that PUV drivers would usually stop in the middle of the road, intersection, and other wrong areas to either pick up or drop off passengers, which hamper the flow of traffic.

“I think there is a need for strong enforcement. Serious problems really need serious enforcement,” he said.

Arnel Lunar, a transport network vehicle driver, and Rex Binibini, a taxi driver, were at the flag raising rite of the LTFRB on Monday morning. They were each bestowed with a plaque of appreciation and a token during the ceremony.

Lunar was recognized for bringing his passenger, who was about to have a heart attack, to a Parañaque hospital, while Binibini was awarded for returning the personal belongings of his passengers. Faye Orellana, INQUIRER.net                /kga
