6 dead, 10 hurt in Rizal, Batangas accidents
SAN PEDRO CITY – Six people were killed in two road accidents in Rizal and Batangas provinces, the police said Sunday.
At about 5:30 p.m., Saturday, a passenger jeepney driven by Francisco Abesamis went out of control while trying to overtake a car in Barangay Bayugo, Jala-Jala, Rizal. It hit a tree and five were killed.
Investigator Sonny Rabang identified the fatalities as Winnie Rodriguez, 41; her children, Kiell Aron, 9, and Karyll, 6; Abesamis and his wife Grace.
Rabang said at least nine other passengers were hurt and brought to the hospital.
In Sto. Tomas, Batangas, ten-year-old Kimberly Mesias died after she was hit by a truck along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay San Pablo past noon on Saturday.
Article continues after this advertisementA police report said Mesias, with another child, Andrea Carpio, 10, were crossing the street when they were hit by the truck driven by Ronilo Porsuelo. Caprio was brought for treatment to the St. Cabrini Medical Center in Sto. Tomas.
The police have taken Porsuelo into custody. /cbb
