Trillanes: Duterte responsible for his words

/ 07:12 AM June 29, 2018

President Duterte should be held responsible for everything he says, opposition Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV said on Thursday.

Trillanes said the proposed talks between Malacañang and the Catholic Church to mend fences after President Duterte called God “stupid” should not proceed, as it was only a “gimmick.”

“Duterte created this mess, unprovoked. For that, he needs to publicly apologize with total sincerity,” he told a news forum at the Senate.

The senator scoffed at Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s call on the people to ignore her father’s interpretation of the Bible.

“He is the President of the Philippines. He should be responsible for every word that comes out of his mouth,” Trillanes said.

In a statement, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Mayor Duterte’s suggestion was good, but there was no ignoring the President’s words.

“When he talks, Filipinos listen for different reasons—some are waiting for his mistakes so they can have a field day criticizing him; others want to be informed so they will learn and be guided by his policy statements; the rest may simply want to be entertained, and make their day. In any case, we all listen,” Lacson said.
