MMDA traffic constable hit by armored van dies

The female traffic constable of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) who was hit by an armored van on EDSA died on Thursday night.

The tragic death of Traffic Constable III Maricel Gammad, 27, and a resident of Barangay Holy Trinity in Quezon City, was confirmed by MMDA Spokesperson Celine Pialogo in a message to reporters.

MMDA said Gammad was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center on Thursday morning after sustaining head injuries from the accident.

According to a report, the victim was managing the traffic flow before she was hit by the vehicle.  A fellow traffic constable said the vehicle tried to enter the yellow lane of the northbound lane of EDSA in front of the Baliwag Transit terminal in Quezon City.

Another witness said that it appeared as if the driver of the speeding armored car tried to slam the brakes but to no avail. /ee
