Kidapawan breaks Guinness world record anew for dancing samba

KIDAPAWAN CITY – Kidapawan City has broken the Guinness world record for the biggest number of people dancing the samba simultaneously, Mayor Joseph Evangelista announced.

The city’s samba dance, with 15,230 people dancing to Luiz Fonzi’s Despacito within a three-kilometer stretch of the national highway here, has broken the world record set by Thailand, which had a 500-man simultaneous dance, Evangelista said.

The mayor said he received the call from the Guinness representative on Wednesday, telling him the city won the records. He was told the certificate would soon follow.

The city performed the samba on February 12 as part of the city’s 20th foundation anniversary.

Evangelista said it was the second world record won by this city in three years.

On August 30, 2016, Kidapawan also won the world record for the largest “Cha-Cha-Cha performance,” with 14,275 participants.
