LTFRB: Protests won’t stop jeepney modernization program

Protests will not stop the implementation of the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), according to a Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) official.

“We need to continue this for the safety, welfare and convenience of the riding public,” LTFRB Board Member Aileen Lizada said.

She made the remark after members of transport groups Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide and No to Jeepney Phase Out Coalition held a rally in front of the LTFRB office on East Avenue, Quezon City on Monday against the PUVMP.

The groups said that under the program, they would have to buy expensive Euro-4 compliant vehicles costing around P2 million each, including interest, leaving them buried in debt. —Dexter Cabalza
