Grab urges LTFRB to allow new driver applications

Grab Philippines urged the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Tuesday to “immediately consider” its petition to be allowed to accept new driver applications.

Grab Public Affairs head Leo Gonzales said that with more drivers, the issue on the high cancellation rate of the ride-hailing service would be solved.

He explained that the supply issue at Grab is one of the factors for the high cancellation rate.

Rides are usually canceled when the waiting time is long. Gonzales attributes this to factors such as the distance of the driver from passenger, waiting time of the passenger, and the traffic in the area.

“So all of these things will be solved and fixed if we can increase the supply [of drivers],” Gonzales said in a chance interview.

“We request the LTFRB to immediately consider allowing new applicants to enter the TNV (transport network vehicle) [service],” he added.

Grab Philippines earlier announced that it might a impose penalty charge for ride cancellation.

Gonzales stressed that it’s not meant to punish passengers, but to have a balanced environment. /ee
