The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has received from the European Union (EU) brand-new equipment and gadgets to boost its border patrol mission and prevent the entry of undesirable aliens.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said the donated equipment were turned over to the BI during the flag raising ceremony at Malacañang on Monday.
Morente said the more than 30 electronic devices and computer equipment will be used by the BI’s Interpol unit to “enhance border security and bolster the ability to prevent the entry of undesirable aliens.”
Lawyer Rommel Tacorda, BI-Interpol Chief, said the donation is part of the EU-ASEAN Migration and Border Management Programe II which was launched by the EU to assist operating Interpol units across Southeast Asia.
“This project, through the Philippine Center on Transnational Crime-Interpol National Central Bureau Manila, aims to support ASEAN in its integration process and strengthen networks and cooperation between and among law enforcement agencies in the region,” Tacorda said. /muf Syrah Vivien Inocencio/INQUIRER.net intern
