The chief of the Eastern Police District (EPD) was relieved from his post after barely two weeks in office, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said Tuesday.
EPD director Chief Supt. Alfred S. Corpus was transferred to the Office of the Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) after serving for only 12 days.
Corpus was designated acting chief of the EPD on June 14, replacing Chief Supt. Reynaldo Biay, who was assigned to the Directorate for Intelligence.
Asked for the reason for Corpus’ transfer, Eleazar only said: “[National Headquarters] command decision.”
“I have no idea, we just received the orders,” he said when asked to expound on his answer.
“That was the result of the deliberation of the NHQ PNP Oversight Committee,” added Eleazar, who was Corpus’ batchmate at the Philippine Military Academy.
It was unclear why Corpus was transferred to another post as there was no critical incident reported recently that may have warranted his transfer.
Corpus was replaced by his deputy district director, Senior Supt. Bernabe Balba.
Corpus had served as the provincial director of Tarlac for two years and as chief of the Police Security and Protection Group, the PNP’s unit that provides security to VIPs. /ee
