DID YOU KNOW: Old Bilibid Prison

/ 05:00 AM June 25, 2018

Through a royal decree issued on June 25, 1865, construction of the Old Bilibid Prison began.

Located on Oroquieta Street in Manila, the main penitentiary was designed to house the prisoners of the country.

It later became known as “Carcel y Presidio Correcional” and could accommodate 1,127 prisoners.

Plans for the construction of the prison were first published on Sept. 12, 1859, but it was not until April 10, 1866 that the entire facility was completed. —Marielle Medina
