Five police officers from the Novaliches Police Station in Quezon City have been relieved after the controversial arrest and death of Genesis “Tisoy” Agoncillo in facility, according to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
“Five of them were relieved of their position effective June 21, pending investigation on the case,” Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel, QCPD director, said in a press briefing at Camp Karingal on Friday.
Supt. Carlito Grijaldo, Novaliches Station commander, and PO3 Dennis Sano were relieved by Esquivel on Thursday.
However, the identities of the three other officers – including a desk officer, staff duty officer, and the shift patrol supervisor – were not yet made public by the QCPD chief.
“The QCPD reiterates it is conducting a thorough investigation on the death of Agoncillo. We will investigate everyone involved, including the police on duty, until the truth comes out, and prosecute the guilty to the full extent of the law” Esquivel added.
According to Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, National Capital Region Police Office director, Tisoy was arrested based on complaints by people in the area, which means that he was not a part of the anti-crime drive against bystanders.
“Ang kanyang pagkakulong doon is not because tambay siya, but it was a response to a request for assistance from the police dahil may alarm and scandal… So pinuntahan doon at siya ay na-aresto,” Eleazar said.
[His detention was not because he was loitering, but it was a response to a request for assistance from the police because of alarm and scandal. So cops went there and he was arrested).
However, relatives of Tisoy belied that claim in television news reports, saying that he was merely staying at a store just in front of their house. /kga /atm
