Lawyer, guard shot dead inside Cainta subdivision

SAN PEDRO CITY – The police on Friday were looking at the “sensitive” cases handled by a private lawyer as the motive in the shooting incident that led to his and a security guard’s death in Cainta, Rizal province on Thursday.

The lawyer was identified as Joey Galit, 62.

A report from the Calabarzon police on Friday, said Galit and his wife had just left their house aboard their car when the attack happened around 11 a.m. in Barangay San Juan.

The couple was approaching the gate of the Apple 1 subdivision when at least four men appeared and shot Galit.

Subdivision guards tried to shoot back but the gunmen also fired at them and hit security guard Jesus Mateo.

Galit and Mateo died on the way to the hospital, while the gunmen escaped on foot, the police report said.

In a phone interview Friday, Cainta police chief Supt. Arturo Brual said they were considering the recent court cases that Galit handled as the motive for his killing.

“We think this is work-related. (Galit) handled sensitive cases not only here in Cainta or Rizal province, but as far as Romblon and Palawan,” Brual said.

He, however, declined to discuss these cases as investigation was ongoing.

Senior Supt. Lou Evangelista, Rizal police director, has also formed a special task group to look into this case.
