TUGUEGARAO — A Taiwanese boat on Sunday rescued two Filipino fishermen who were stranded for a week off Batanes, a Coast Guard report said on Wednesday.

Gilbert Dacaya, 18, and his 17-year-old male helper were taken in by fishing vessel Juin Fu Xing.

The Taiwanese turned over the two youths to the Philippine Coast Guard on Monday.

The youths sailed out near Camiguin island on June 11 and encountered engine problems, which caused their boat to drift toward the northeast part of Yami island near Taiwan.

Dacaya and the other teenager, whose name was not released, were examined at the Basco General Hospital before they were brought to Tuguegarao City on Tuesday.   /vvp
