Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes and Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Wednesday affirmed their friendship despite recent word war.
Trillanes said he was glad that Roque attended the Senate hearing on the bill that seeks to penalize government officials who spread “fake news.”
“Mister secretary, I know may perceived ano [conflict] tayo but just for the record, kaibigan ko ‘yan si Secretary Harry Roque kahit na ang tingin n’ya sa akin, ano, demonyo? Hindi naman,” he said upon acknowledging Roque.
(Mister secretary, I know we have a perceived conflict but just for the record, Secretary Harry Roque is my friend even if he seems to think I am a demon. No I’m not)
Roque responded to affirm his old friendship with Trillanes, whom he described as an ally in previous battles.
“Tama po iyon matagal na tayong magkaibigan na at malalim po ang ating samahan,” Roque said.
(That is correct. We have been friends for a long time and our relationship is deep.)
Roque explained that he just had to defend himself from Trillanes’ attacks.
“Kung minsan po kailangan nating mag self-defense. Tuloy po ang ating pagkakaibigan,” he added.
(Sometimes, we need to practice self-defense. But our friendship will continue.)
Trillanes earlier commented that Roque has sold his soul to the devil when he presented Zambales fishermen to a media frenzy to downplay the reported harassment by Chinese coast guards.
Roque responded: “Hinding-hindi ko po isasanla ang aking kaluluwa kay Senator Trillanes.”
(I will never sell my soul to Trillanes.)
Roque was apparently referring to Trillanes as the devil. /vvp
