19 hurt as bus rams into 2 vehicles, waiting shed on Edsa

At least 19 people, including two bystanders, were injured in a three-way collision on the southbound lane of Edsa in Makati City after a bus lost its brakes on Tuesday.

The accident caused traffic to back up all the way to Kamuning Road in Quezon City for nearly three hours.

In a report by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, a southbound Joyselle Bus lost its brakes as it was approaching a waiting shed on Magallanes Avenue at a speed of around 50 to 60-kph.

It rammed into the side of a Valenzuela Transport Service Cooperative Bus bound for Alabang and the back of a car.

The buses, however, crashed into a concrete wall and destroyed a waiting shed.

At least 17 bus passengers and two bystanders were rushed to the hospital for minor injuries.

The accident happened after President Rodrigo Duterte last week ordered the mandatory drug testing of all bus drivers, saying the loss of brakes was a tired and flimsy excuse.

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Board Member Aileen Lizada said the agency would issue a show cause order against Joyselle Bus. —Krixia Subingsubing
