DOTr rushing to process 1,000 applications for modernized jeepneys
Traffic agencies of the government were “working double time” to process the applications of at least 1,000 jeepney drivers to shift to modernized jeepneys, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Tuesday.
After the launching of the modernized jeepney under its Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), the DOTr said that more than 1,000 papers would still have to be processed.
“The DOTr and the LTFRB [Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board] are also working double time to process the applications of more than 1,000 new jeepneys,” the DOTr said in a statement.
However, on launching of modernized jeepneys at the Senate loop on Monday, netizens were puzzled on the design of the vehicles.
The LTFRB, meanwhile, set the minimum fare of P10 and a maximum fare P16 for the 7-kilometer route.

Despite the flak, the DOTr said that 20 more modern jeepneys would be rolled out in Pasay routes by July.
In fact, 200 jeepneys are expected to be on the road around Metro Manila by the first half of July. /atm
