The Philippine National Police (PNP) has posthumously awarded the “heroic” Isabela town police chief killed while patrolling in the area.
PNP chief Dir. Gen. Oscar D. Albayalde conferred a heroism medal on Mallig town police chief Sr. Insp. Michael Angelo Tubaña who was slain by suspected thieves on Sunday night.
“Posthumously binigyan natin ng award na PNP heroism medal para naman ma-recognize yung kadakilaan na ginawa niya sa bayan,” Albayalde said in an interview at Tubaña’s wake in Isabela.
Tubaña was patrolling with one of his men, Police Officer 2 Edwin Gumpal and two other operatives, when he confronted two men trying to take away a parked motorcycle.
One of the men shot him at the right part of his abdomen.
The duo immediately fled on a motorcycle.
The 31-year town police chief was rushed to the hospital but died while undergoing treatment.

Joint operatives of the Isabela and Kalinga provincial police offices nabbed two suspects a day later.
They were identified as Warren Bulawit and a 17-year-old boy positively identified by witnesses as one of the suspects.
Albayalde said Tubaña’s family would receive financial assistance from the PNP and the Office of the President.
