A shallow magnitude 3.7 earthquake hit the municipality of Catigbian in Bohol, affecting nearby towns within the province.
According to a bulletin from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), different intensities were recorded in the towns of Sagbayan (Intensity V), Catigbian (Intensity IV), Carmen (Intensity III), and Tubigon (Intensity II).
The same bulletin said that the epicenter was located three kilometers of the said city, at a depth of just five kilometers below the ground.
According to the United States Geological Survey and an Associated Press report, shallow earthquakes or those located between zero to 70 kilometers below the ground have a stronger effect than those located deeper into the crust.
Phivolcs said that no significant damages and no aftershocks are expected as of now. /je
