CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The National Food Authority (NFA) on Monday (June 18) started unloading 220,000 bags of Vietnam rice that arrived at the Subic Bay Freeport on June 5. The shipment was earmarked for Central Luzon and Cagayan Valley provinces.

Cheap imported rice could be bought for P27 to P35 per kilogram again in the region’s markets later this week or next week, according to Rex Estoperez, NFA spokesperson and the agency’s Central Luzon director, on Tuesday (June 19).

At least 12,000 bags (each containing 50 kgs of the staple grain) have so far been unloaded from a ship docked at the freeport.

Rains delayed the unloading and delivery of the stocks to warehouses in the two regions, Estoperez said.
