SAN PEDRO CITY – A former police officer was killed in an anti-drug operation in Famy town in Laguna province the police said on Monday.
Laguna police director Sr. Supt. Kirby Kraft, in a text message, identified the suspect as Arnel Aguilan, alias “Parak,” who was a Police Officer 3 assigned in Lucena City before he was dismissed in 1998.
It was not immediately clear why Aguilan was removed from the service but Kraft said he had since gone into the illegal drug trade in Famy.
The police said a buy bust at about 10 p.m. on Sunday targeted Aguilan and a still unidentified man, who sold undercover police three sachets of suspected “shabu” (crystal meth) worth P1,000.
During the transaction, the suspects allegedly opened fire to elude arrest. The police chased Aguilan who was hit during the gunfight, while his companion escaped.
Aguilan died while being taken to the Pakil Gen. Cailles Hospital. /cbb
