The Liberal Party (LP) has not breathed its last, not in the province of Negros Occidental where the party drew in new members.
Although LP is now just a shadow of its old self, the party continued to make its presence felt in the province with new members taking their oaths before Vice President Leni Robredo, LP chair, in Bacolod City on Thursday.
At least 82 Negrenses took oath and were described by Robredo as not politicians who applied to become LP members online.
Lessons
Robredo said the entry of new members into LP, especially by those who are not politicians, sent a message that people wanted to join the party “because we believe in the principles the party was fighting for.”
Recruiting nonpoliticians, said Robredo, was borne by lessons that LP learned after the 2016 elections.
One of these, said Robredo, was that “it’s hard to rely on politicians.”
Negros Occidental was one of many provinces in the country that used to be dominated by LP when Benigno Aquino III was still president.
Robredo said the recruitment of new LP members is happening nationwide.
